Instructional Workshops

We work with faculty and departments to design, implement, and assist with creating lessons and assessments for teaching and learning. Past activities have included interactive lessons and workshops. We are available to provide one-on-one, small group, and even department support. We have also assisted in creating online orientations, videos, and how-to guides for students.

To register for a PVCC training session:

  1. Log into the Employee Learn Center by Clicking Here
  2. Click the Search for Training tile.
  3. Type a keyword from the training title into the Search Bar and click Find.
  4. A list of available training displays.
  5. To the left of the Search Results, below Narrow Results section, click ILT Locations and check-the-box for Paradise Valley Community College.
  6. Click the Training Session title that you want to enroll in.
  7. On the bottom-left below Enrollments click the Training Session title.
  8. On the upper-right, click Enroll.
  9. When you are done, on the upper-center click Logout.

Canvas Training: Canvas Basic and Canvas Advanced

This self-paced course will introduce you to Canvas basics and also covers more advanced topics. This course is a resource of important Canvas information and how-tos, and also is a great resource for those already using Canvas.

Canvas Basics Workshops

Canvas Basics is a 1.5 hour workshop that will introduce you to Canvas. Users will be taken through the process of setting up core components in their Canvas course, including Course Settings, Notifications, and Creating a Profile. Users will have an intro to General Canvas Navigation, Communicating through Canvas, Adding your Syllabus, Modules and Pages, Creating Assignments, and Using the Grade Book. This workshop is required prior to receiving a Canvas course.

Canvas Advanced Workshops-

Canvas Advanced is a 2.5 hour workshop that focuses on creating a module using the Canvas tools; Announcements, Assignments, Collaborations, Conferences, Discussions, File Management, Grades & SpeedGrader, Pages, People, Quizzes, Chat, and more! Discover how you can analyze and view statistics for your students and course content. Experiment with the Canvas Apps feature. If you plan to use more advanced features, this workshop is for you.

EDGE

The EDGE Program is a professional development learning community for new PVCC Adjunct Faculty members (first three years of teaching experience). This hybrid program is a blend of in-person and online. There will be 4 in-person sessions.


During these sessions faculty will explore how to create a community of learners, outcome-based learning, active teaching and learning, assessment, and useful instructional technologies. Overall, this is meant to provide faculty with a variety of student engagement techniques for any course format.

Accessibilty: Instructional Design

Digital Citizenship

Digital Citizenship allows us to connect, collaborate, and share by using technology appropriately. This session called Walls, Gates, and Bridges focusing on Digital Citizenship that will provide participants with an overview of what it means to be a good citizen in this rapid changing digital world. As we become more involved online we need to understand and translate our skills, technically and socially into the virtual world.

Open Labs

Open Labs are for PVC staff and employees to come in and get one on one assistance for all instructional and technology issues. We offer regular drop in and open lab times every Thursday from 3pm to 5pm in the Computer Commons. If you need specific help, please contact the CTL ahead of time so we can assure the appropriate experienced staff member will be available.
