BPC270: Computer Maintenance II: A+ Technician Prep

This is the home page for BPC270: Computer Maintenance II: A+ Technician Prep.  Students should check this site at least once per week to insure you are informed of any updates to the schedule or assignments.  It expected that each student read all course documents during the first week of class.

Course Description: Advanced technical aspects of maintaining and servicing computers. Emphasis placed on installation, periodic maintenance, diagnosis, and/or problem resolution. Helps prepare students for the CompTIA A+ technician examinations including Information Technology (IT) field technician, remote support technician and bench technician. Prerequisites: BPC170 with grade of C or better, or permission of instructor.

Course Competencies:
  1. Describe careers of field, remote, and bench technicians.
  2. Explain safe lab procedures and tool use.
  3. Describe potential safety hazards and safety procedures associate with a variety of computer equipment.
  4. Identify advanced principles of repairing personal computers (PCs) including accessing the need for and installation of replacement components.
  5. Select, install, configure, and customize an operating system based on customer needs.
  6. Describe wireless communication methods for laptops and portable devices.
  7. Select and install components for repair of laptops and portable devices.
  8. Share printers and scanners to users over a network.
  9. Design and Implement a network based on the customer's needs, including appropriate components.
  10. Implement security policy based on customers’ needs including selection of appropriate security components.
  11. Perform preventive maintenance on computer equipment including desktop and laptop PCs, operating systems, peripherals, networks and security.
  12. Apply advanced troubleshoot techniques to desktop and laptop PCs, operating systems, peripherals, networks and security.
