CLASS PROCEDURES
Each class will consist of segments for review of reading, questions, lecture, demonstration, and hands-on lab work.
The student will be responsible for reading, review, online quizzes, exercises and projects.
Reading should be completed prior to the class period in which the material will be covered.
Quizzes relating to each assigned chapter are completed online in Blackboard
prior to the beginning of each class in which the chapter is scheduled to be covered.
Exercises assigned for each chapter must be completed and submitted by email to the instructor
in the specified format by 7:00 P.M of the due date.
Exercises must execute to receive any credit.
Late exercises will be penalized by 25% per week or fraction thereof.
A partial timely exercise submission may be followed by one additional submission for additional penalized credit.
No exercises will be accepted after the final.
Projects demonstrating cumulative programming skills must be completed and submitted by email to the instructor
in the specified format by 7:00 P.M of the due date.
Late projects will be penalized by 25% per week or fraction thereof.
A partial timely project submission may be followed by one additional submission for additional penalized credit.
No projects will be accepted after the final.
Tests will consist of online questions of selected questions from the chapter online quizzes.
If you must miss a test, you must contact the instructor before the test
or you will not be eligible for a make-up test.
Reasonable arrangements will be made for a substitute time and place to take a substitute test.
Attendance Attendance will be taken and is a direct part of your grade as specified above
and will affect your ability to complete course work in a proper and timely manner.
Withdrawals are subject to the current college policy and the responsibility of the student.
The instructor may initiate the withdrawal of a student from the class after two unexcused absences or two unexcused failures to submit assignments.
Classes may not be recorded.
Students are subject to and must comply with college policies found in the current College Catalog and Student Handbook.
Statement Regarding Internet and Computer Usage
Internet and computer usage is for class assignments and related research only!
Inappropriate use of the Internet or computers is subject to loss of privileges, class withdrawal and other disciplinary action.
Statement Regarding Special Needs
Any students with special needs should inform the instructor of any assistance that will be required.
In order to accommodate your needs, you will need to give proper notice as to what accommodations will be necessary, and have documentation on file in the Disability Resource Center.
It is preferable that you identify yourself at the beginning of the semester.
If this is not possible, you must give at least 48 hours notice before an accommodation is necessary.
Special arrangements can be made regarding seating, hearing devices, testing time, as well as many other concerns.

Statement Concerning Plagiarism
Plagiarism is defined as presenting the work of another as one's own.
More than four consecutive words from a source other than the writer constitute plagiarism
when the source is not clearly identified in appropriate document format.
From the PVCC Student Handbook:
"Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to, the use of paraphrase or direct quotation,
of the published or unpublished work of another person with out full and clear acknowledgement.
Is also includes the unacknowledged use of materials prepared by another person or agency engaged
in the selling of term papers or other academic materials."
Information on Computer Commons
The Computer Commons, located in Building E, Learning Resource Complex, E-137,
is available to any PVCC student who has enrolled in the NC-500 section 0001 course and thus paid $15.00/semester fee for Open Lab access.

Information on Learning Support Center Services
The PVCC Learning Support Center is located in Building E, Learning Resource Complex, E-180.
The mission of the Learning Support Center is to support learning and help students achieve their potential.
The Learning Support Center offers free instructional support to students for any of PVCC's academic classes.
The LSC provides handouts covering such reading and study skills as taking lecture notes, studying for exams, improving vocabulary, and many more.
There are also tip sheets available online.
The Learning Support Center also has self-paced programs and multi-media resources available.
