Welcome!
Welcome to the Science Division Homepage. Here you will find resources
to help plan your career in any field of science. Courses are offered in
a variety of formats (ranging from traditional in-class meetings to
online, flex, and hybrid). All our science buildings, including the new
Life Sciences Building, provide state-of-the-art classrooms, laboratories,
and learning technologies.
-
The Professional Scientist Preparation Program (PSPP) prepares PVCC
students for careers in the science and medical professions. These
include medical doctor, pharmacist, physician assistant, dentist,
veterinarian, or research scientist. PSPP combines faculty-student
mentoring with workshops in critical thinking, interviewing, and career
testing. Students have the highest acceptance rate to Midwestern
University of any of the Maricopa Community Colleges, as well as high
acceptance rates at other universities. To learn more, click on the
Professional Scientist Preparation Program link on the left
panel.
- The Science Division has formed partnerships with medical and pharmacy
schools, which provide currently enrolled PVCC students an opportunity to
transfer directly to a professional program. The following lists the
schools and programs:
- Grand Canyon University and PVCC have an established partnership for
health majors.
- Midwestern University and PVCC have an established partnership for
students interested in transfering to Midwestern and working towards a
degree in pharmacy, medicinie, biomedical sciences, or other health
sciences areas.
- The Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in Guadalajara, Jalisco,
Mexico, in association with PVCC, offers a program which leads to
a medical degree.
- Outreach programs with local high schools also exist.
To learn more about these programs, click on the University Transfer
Programs link on the left panel.
- Students planning to major in any field of science are strongly
encouraged
to obtain hands-on research experience, through summer internship
programs. In addition to fulfilling
coursework, many institutions require research experience. Research
programs exist in physics, chemistry, biology, materials science,
nanotechnology, computer science, energy technologies, engineering,
medical science, environmental science, and more. These programs provide
excellent research opportunities, and they occur at world-renowned
national laboratories and universities all across the country. Students
who are accepted into these programs will gain valuable experience that
will help them in their chosen science career. To learn more, click on
the Summer Internships link on the left panel.
- Interested in learning about things at the astronomical level? The
Physics and Astronomy Department designed and built a true scale model of
the solar system. It spans about a quarter-mile of the campus and
is a unique 14-station, donor-funded, outdoor educational display that
enhances engaged learning about the solar system for all students and the
community. To learn more, click on the Scale Model Solar System
link on the left panel.
