Introduction to Human Anatomy and Physiology
Chapter
3 - Cells
1. When mitosis occurs, what are the new cells like?
In the cellular division process called mitosis, 2 new cells are produced from 1 "parent" cell. They will be identical to the parent cell, with the same number of chromosomes and the same genetic makeup of the parent cell.
2. Where in the human body does mitosis occur?
Mitosis is a cell division process that occurs in virtually all cells of the body, with the exception of the production of sperm & egg cells. Skin cells, cells lining the digestive system, cells of the lungs, etc. are replaced by the process of mitosis.
