1.  Call to Order:

 

a.   Members Present:  Reyes Medrano, Jeff Lace, Paul Cornell, Walt Thielen, Lynn McClelland, Jim Rubin, Beth Ann Newman, Tom Powell, Larry Burgess, Muriel Mullane, David Rubi, Kevin Arps, Lori Anonsen

 

b.   Guest:  Marilyn Cristiano

 

3.   Approval of Agenda / Approval of the Dec. 2005 Meeting Minutes

 

4.   Officer Reports:

 

a.   President Reyes Medrano:

 

(1)   Announced strategic conversation at SCC on 2/14/06 from 4-7pm regarding academic freedom and current legislative proposals. All senators strongly encouraged to attend.

 

(2)   Discussed need to review college plan. Senate division reps. will ask their divisions for feedback. Div. reps. will report feedback back to Senate.

 

      (3)   Fory-nine Percent Program Report – because of some faculty backing out, all

              requests were honored. Debra Thompson is conducing a survey of all colleges to

              review their policies and procedures for this program.

 

 

b.   President‑Elect Jim Patterson:

 

(1)   No report

 

c.   Treasurer Jeff Lace:

 

(1) Announced that there was little activity, just the faculty luncheon

       

(2) Treasurer Jeff Lace submitted the following Treasurer’s Report for filing and audit:

d.   Secretary Jim Rubin:

 

(1)   Secretary Jim Rubin had no report.

 

6.   Old Business:

 

 

a.   Faculty Scholarship (monies) – Motion carried that faculty scholarship monies for 2005-2006 will be carried over to Fall 2006 and divided into two scholarships for two students. A scholarship committee consisting of Tom Powell, Muriel Mulane, and David Rubi will meet to discuss next year’s procedures.

 

 

 

 


 

7.   New Business:

 

a.   Graduation Ceremony - will be held on campus, near the PAC, with asphalt as a ground cover.

 

b.   Classrooms for RSCC – RSCC is using PVCC classrooms for GED classes. Reyes will discuss this issue with Mary Lou Mosley

 

c.   Ergonomics – If any faculty has problems with their desk and chair in terms of physical discomfort, District Office will conduct an evaluation and provide the division with recommendations. V.P. Patterson is looking into HR paying for the recommended actions.

 

d.   President Hesse – Motion carried to public recognize Dr. Hesse, CGCC President, for her support of faculty and academic freedom. This resolution will be brought by Reyes to FEC.

 

e.   Bookstore issues – Several instances (if not more) of too few books being ordered for classes such that some students still don’t have the required book for class. Senate reps. will ask their divisions for a list of classes and how many books were underordered. Reps. will report this back to Reyes for the March Senate meeting. Reyes will discuss the list with Jane.

 

f.    Instructor’s Manuals – NOTICE: some instructor manuals and solution books are available on ebay

 

g.   Faculty Advisor – Some faculty advisors are reporting that some students are reporting that  academic advisors are telling them not to take certain classes or instructors for reasons such as “its too much work” or “that teacher is hard”. Discussion ensued on whether to invite Maggie to a division meeting or meet with her one-on-one.
