AAUP Dues Discussion
The District Faculty Executive Council (FEC) is considering dropping automatic District Faculty Association member enrollment in the American Association of University Professors (AAUP). If just the FEC were members of the AAUP, the District Faculty Association would save almost $100,000.00 annually in dues. This issue has been discussed before and the decision was at the time to remain in full membership. Senators had several questions about the benefits of AAUP membership and the ramifications of pulling out:Jane Marks will seek answers to these questions from the FEC and the Meet and Confer team prior to our Senate making a recommendation.
- What bargaining power/credibility results from our association with AAUP?
- How would the loss of Maricopa dues affect the state AAUP organization?
- What do we lose by not associating with AAUP?
- What do we get if just the FEC has AAUP membership?
- What will the District Faculty Association do with the $100,000.00 in dues no longer being forwarded to AAUP? Would our dues decrease?

Carrie Taylor (FEC Secretary) has posted links for the campus Faculty Association web site of four colleges. They vary in amount of information available. Those links may be accessed from the District Faculty Association web site: http://www.dist.maricopa.edu/org/faculty/senates.htm It is not known at present how many more sites already exist but haven't been linked, or if they do not have web sites.
Campus Meetings During Finals (Jack Sexton)
Based on a concern brought by Jack Sexton that faculty were being asked to attend committee and other meetings during finals week, the Senate agreed that John Nelson would mention the issue in the President's Cabinet meeting and send a memo to all committee chairs encouraging them to consider final exam schedules when scheduling meetings.
