Dual enrollment refers to high school students taking a course specifically advertised as, or pre-established as, a course for whic= h a student may receive both high school and college credit.
The intent of dual enrollment is to increase high scho= ol graduation rates and college going rates for students from all quartiles of achievement.
By adhering to the following guidelines, we can assure= the quality and integrity of these courses and protect their transferability and degree applicability.
PVCC will provide college-level courses at its feeder = high schools. Students enrolled in these courses must meet any prerequisites or assessments as any community college student.
The courses provided, as requested from the high schoo= l, will be freshman level (100- 200 series) and will not be in conflict with, = or in lieu of, other high school classes.
The courses will be offered at the high school and tau= ght by high school faculty who are community college certified.
A residential faculty member will coordinate the progr= am. This person should be given release/reassigned time according to the size of the program. Initially it is recommended that a faculty member receive 15 h= ours the first semester and 9 hours the second semester.
It is recommended that PVCC follow a 3 - year implemen= tation program to engage in dual enrollment. Each year more courses/high schools w= ill be added.
Students= u>
Students may be admitted on an individual basis with t= he approval of college officials, so long as the students meet the established requirements of the courses for which they enroll and the college officials determine that such admission is in the best interest of the students. The teachers will be evaluated using the same tool as = with PVCC adjuncts.
Each potential faculty member will provide to the facu= lty coordinator a transcript to be kept on file at PVCC.
Courses
Courses shall use college-approved textbooks, syllabus= es, course outlines, assessment, and grading standards, all of which are applic= able to the courses when taught at the community college campus.
Courses shall be college freshmen courses only (100 - = 200 level) and the high school shall determine which courses to offer in conjunction with the faculty coordinator and the discipline college chair.<= /p>
