The biggest mistakes students most often make in OE Online:
- Students forget to open the online course guide (Myitlab or Blackboard) and follow the steps in the order presented.
- Students procrastinate and start the course too late to finish with an acceptable grade.
Some suggestions for success:
- Don't get too frustrated—get help ASAP!!
- Complete one entire OE Online course before you start another. Since we have extended enrollment in the OE Online classes, you can register for another class until about ½ way through the semester.
How your brain works:
- Read/ Pass through the materials and assignments 3-4 times to learn in depth. Just spend the time and don't worry whether you get it the first few times through. You will be amazed at how you can effortlessly understand the material the 3rd time through when you didn't have a clue the 1st time around!
- Work in 2 hour sessions each day instead of many hours on a few days. Your brain tends to overflow (just like a cup) after a few hours and the overflow information is lost.
- It takes 6 hours for your brain to process what you just learned (the full cup). If you study Excel in the morning and PowerPoint in the afternoon, you will retain the PowerPoint but not the Excel because they are too much alike (cup overflow!). If you study Excel and take a tennis lesson in the afternoon you will retain the Excel because the two subjects are different enough from each other.
The format of the courses is pretty straightforward and once you get the hang of it you should enjoy your learning. Good luck! Call me with any questions!
