Biographical Information
Dr. Hoyt is originally from Laramie, Wyoming where his interest in science began with watching science fiction movies and television shows and reading many science fiction novels.
After receiving his bachelor's degree in biochemistry from the University of Wyoming, Dr. Hoyt attended graduate school at the University of Nevada-Reno for his Ph.D. in biochemistry. Post graduate research experiences were at Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ and at Rice University in Houston, TX.
Dr. Hoyt's research interests are in microbial physiology and biochemistry. Research topics have included study of thermal stress in the fungi Penicillium duponti, regulation of glycolysis and Krebs cycle by covalent phosphorylation of various enzymes in several bacteria and studies concerning enzymes and genes involved in antibiotic biosynthesis in the genus Streptomyces.
Additional research experience occurred at the VA medical centers in Tucson and Phoenix, AZ. This research was concerned with the control of inflammation in chronic, inflammatory lung diseases such as asthma, COPD and bronchitis, and dealt with the role of inflammatory proteins, enzymes, and nitric oxide in the inflammatory process and use of doxycycline and various statins as potential anti-inflammatory agents.
