Enrolled students at Paradise Valley Community college are encouraged
to submit one piece of creative writing in four genres: Poetry,
Short Story, Creative Non-Fiction and One-Act Play. Judged contest.
Cash awards. Entry forms available on campus.

Visiting
Writer and Scholar Master Class
Writers and Artists of national distinction
give a reading/lecture presentation. The writer/scholar will then
conduct a writing Master Class in which discussion on the creative
process as well as various writing techniques takes place. Open
to the public.

from the Desert–Arizona Writers' Reading
Various writers from the Southwest give
readings and hold discussions. Open to the public.

by Rita Dove, former Poet Laureate of the United States and 1987
Pulitzer Winner; Norman Dubie, who received the Bess Hokin Award
of the Modern Poetry Association, and fellowships from the Guggenheim
Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts. His poems
have appeared in many magazines, including The Paris
Review, The New Yorker, The American Poetry Review, Antaeus, The
Antioch Review, Field, and Poetry;Jan Beatty, Author of Mad River
and Boneshaker; Winner of the Agnes Lynch Starrett Poetry Prize;
Pablo Neruda Prize for Poetry; host and producer of Prosody, a
public radio show on NPR affiliate WYEP-FM featuring the work
of national writers; Judith Vollmer, Author of The Door Open to
the Fire; Winner of the Cleveland State Poetry Prize, Level Green,
Winner of the Brittingham Prize in Poetry; Co-editor of 5 AM and
others. |

Associate of Fine Arts (AFA) Certificates:
Created by a group of working artists,
writers and musicians, the Associate of Fine Arts (AFA) degree
is designed for students planning avocations ns in Creative Writing,
Theatre, Visual Arts, Music, Dance, and/or Cinema. The Associate
of Fine Arts (AFA) certificates have a common core of course work
with specialized study in specific areas. The core program enables
students to integrate academic and artistic disciplines as well
as offering an enriched cultural experience and foundation in
aesthetics. In the final phase of the program, graduates are expected
to demonstrate proficiency in one artistic discipline |
