The legend of the "Dreamcatcher" is believed to have originated with the Oneida Indians in the northeastern part of the United States.

It is said that the Dreamcatcher allows good dreams to flow through the spirit hole in the center of its web. Bad dreams are trapped in the web and then disappear with the morning sun.

The Dreamcatcher is often given to infants and children, the young as well as the old, so that their dreams may come true. It is kept throughout life and its mystical power is enchanced by adding fetishes and personal belongings.

We chose the "Dreamcatcher" name for this project because of the origin with the Native American people and the nature of the art collection. In addition, we wanted to capture the Buxton's "dream" of sharing their collection with the rest of the world.
